Properties of lactobionic acid
The product comes in the form of an odorless, white powder. It stimulates collagen and elastin production. Its ability to bind water gives it strong moisturizing properties.
Application in cosmetics
Lactobionic acid is used in cosmetics for dry, sensitive, and couperose skin. It can also be found in products for rosacea.
Its other uses include creams that reduce wrinkles, soothe inflammation, lighten discolorations, and accelerate skin healing after cosmetic procedures.
In cosmetics for home use, concentrations of up to 10% are used, while in specialist salon treatments they can be up to 50%.
Lactobionic acid rarely causes irritation and can be used year-round. However, a skin patch test is recommended to rule out allergic reactions. Additionally, in the summer, it’s worth using cosmetics with a UV filter alongside lactobionic acid.
