Cordyceps mushrooms contain many active substances, including mannitol, cordycepin, nucleosides, ergosterol, aminophenol, and trace elements. These mushrooms have broad therapeutic effects, and their immune-regulating properties play an important role in cancer prevention and the prevention of kidney, liver, and heart disease.
The Chinese Pharmacopoeia (2005) notes that Cordyceps mushrooms have a positive effect on kidney and lung function. They can be used to treat persistent cough caused by asthma.
In nature, Cordyceps sinensis (also known as “caterpillar fungus”) grows as a parasitic fungus on caterpillars (Zhu, Halpern, & Jones, 1998a; Zhu et al., 1998b), making it very rare. Cordyceps militaris has similar properties to Cordyceps sinensis and is often used by athletes – it increases blood flow while improving oxygenation of body cells, which translates into increased endurance in sports. It also acts as a natural antioxidant.
Cordyceps sinensis extract
The extract is obtained from the fruiting body of the Cordyceps sinensis mushroom and is standardized for polysaccharide content. Polysaccharides strengthen the immune system and help the body recover after intense exercise. This mushroom is known in traditional Chinese medicine for its beneficial effects on kidney and lung function. The extract is a safe and effective ingredient in health products and dietary supplements.
